Description

Poster Pariser Platz Berlin

The Poster Pariser Platz Berlin represents the place with the Brandenburg Gate (“Brandenburger Tor”), located in Berlin-Mitte. Map.
It was my 1st Urban sketch of Berlin! I drew this image on the 09/09/09 directly at the location.
I chose this place because I came from Paris to live in Berlin.

As a technique I applied wash drawing (ink and water).
And as artistic tools I used for this illustration:
– a sketchbook “Sennelier” (Watercolour Paper, Format 24,5 x 10,5 cm -9 2/3″ x 4 1/4″-, 300g/m2 -140 lb.in2-)
– a calligraphic pen (“Pilot Parallel Pen”- 2.4 mm)
– 2 paint brushes (fine and medium)

For this image I needed 1 hour. I was sitting on a bank, on the right side of the Brandenburg Gate. It was an interesting atmosphere with the tourists and the rally people meeting in one place.

On the left of the illustration we see the Embassy of the United States of America. Also in this place there is the French Embassy on the right side of the Gate.
This illustration is also on my blog “Traversée d’Encres”.

The Poster Pariser Platz shows a square in the centre of Berlin, Germany, situated by the Brandenburg Gate at the end of Unter den Linden.
Usually known as a place of German history this corner has French history, too.

It is the square immediately behind the Brandenburg Gate when approaching the centre of Berlin from the Tiergarten in the west. The neo-classical Brandenburg Gate was completed in the early 1790s by Carl Gotthard Langhans. Until 1814 the square was known simply as Quarré or Viereck (the Square).
In March 1814, when Prussian troops along with the other Allies captured Paris after the overthrow of Napoleon, it was renamed Pariser Platz to mark this triumph.
Before reunification Pariser Platz was on spot of the Berlin Wall (East and West-Berlin).
When the city was reunited in 1990, there was broad consensus that the Pariser Platz should be made into a fine urban space again.
