Each tote bag colored Laeti-Berlin is a unique product because it’s handmade printed in my Berlin studio.
This impression of the tote bag pink Cuvrystrasse is serigraphied in white and in silver color (one side). I print these two colors to create a relief effect of my illustration.
The original image is an urban sketch that I drew with my calligraphic pen and with dry pastels on the 10th of March 2010 directly at the location in Berlin-Kreuzberg. This illustration represents the graffiti of the street artist Blu located in the street “Cuvrystraße”. Close to the river Spree and the crossroads of Schlesische Str. I was sitting in front of the big wall of graffitis, on the other side of this nomansland. I needed one hour for this illustration.
A typical place, made in Berlin, where these are dying out. But thanks to this urban sketch you have a souvenir of this graffiti.
This illustration is also on my blog “Traversée d’Encres” with urban sketches (“Through The Inks”).
A tote bag is a fashion trend in Berlin. They have two handles. It’s called “Beutel” in German coming from the good old “Jutebeutel”, a natural fiber used for making rope and cloth and carrying potatoes. In the 1960s “Jute not Plastic” started the recycling movement. During the 80s jute bags became beautiful, practical and ecological items of alternative culture in Berlin.
In fact, ecological conscience is part of my ethics. So I print this bag on organic cotton.
Label “FAIR WEAR Foundation”: pro-active social responsibility. So this bag is too fair trade ! About Continental Clothing
You can wash your bag up to 30 °C (86 °F). Don’t worry, the print will stay perfect because I fixed it with a special emulsion and I pressed it to impregnate.
